Anemia
Reduction in red blood cell mass or hemoglobin below normal for age and sex.
Classified morphologically (microcytic, normocytic, macrocytic) and etiologically (iron deficiency, megaloblastic, hemolytic, anemia of chronic disease, blood loss). Iron-deficiency anemia is the most common globally. Workup includes CBC, RDW, ferritin, TIBC, transferrin saturation, B12, folate, and reticulocyte count. MNT addresses dietary sources of the deficient nutrient and supplementation as indicated.
