Arcuate nucleus
Subcortical brain region that secretes appetite-enhancing neuropeptide Y and appetite-suppressing melanocortins.
A hypothalamic region central to energy-balance regulation. NPY/AgRP neurons stimulate feeding, while POMC neurons release α-MSH (a melanocortin) to suppress feeding. Targets of leptin, insulin, ghrelin, and PYY signals.
