Endoplasmic reticulum

Network of membranous channels in the cytosol providing continuity among the nuclear envelope, Golgi, and plasma membrane.

Membrane network involved in protein synthesis (rough ER, studded with ribosomes), lipid and steroid synthesis, calcium storage, and detoxification (smooth ER, including cytochrome P450 systems).
