Pathway by which glycogen is enzymatically broken down to glucose.
Glucagon- and epinephrine-stimulated phosphorolytic cleavage of glycogen by glycogen phosphorylase, releasing glucose-1-phosphate (and free glucose in liver). Supplies blood glucose during fasting or stress.
