Indirect calorimetry

Measurement of O2 consumption and CO2 expiration to estimate metabolic rate.

Estimates energy expenditure and substrate use by measuring inspired/expired O2 and CO2. Combined with urinary nitrogen, allows computation of respiratory quotient and fuel mix.
