Nutrigenomics
Study of how nutrients and bioactive food components modulate gene expression, protein synthesis, and metabolism, and how genetic variation affects individual response to diet.
MNHD distinguishes nutrigenomics (effects of nutrients on gene expression) from nutrigenetics (effects of genotype on nutrient response). The integrated field underpins precision nutrition (Ch 123). Demonstrated examples include APOE × dietary fat, MTHFR × folate, FTO × physical activity, and TCF7L2 × glycemic load. The chapter warns that most consumer DNA-diet services overstate current evidence.
