Pentose phosphate pathway
Pathway that metabolizes glucose-6-phosphate to pentose phosphate, producing NADPH.

Cytosolic pathway with oxidative (NADPH-generating) and nonoxidative (ribose-5-phosphate generating) branches. Supplies reducing power for biosynthesis, antioxidant defense (glutathione regeneration), and nucleotide synthesis.
